“Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given–and you will receive even more.” Mark 4:24

In the above quote, Jesus was telling His disciples the benefit of listening to His teaching, but the principle applies to anything.

How well do you listen to the following:

  1. Your body
  2. The words of loved ones
  3. Instructions from your boss
  4. The needs of others

Remember. The more you listen, the more understanding you will be given.

Husbands. Do you want to understand your wives? Learn to listen closer.

I have found that the practice of meditation helps me to develop the skills of listening and observing.  If you think about it, we all need to develop these skills. Close listening takes patience, focus and compassion.

I invite you to practice meditation on your own or join a group that can encourage you on your journey. I lead an online meditation group on Monday nights at 7pm. Learn more by going to upliftnola.biz.

As far as Jesus’ teaching, don’t forget to be a doer of His Word and not a hearer only. It is the doer of the word who is blessed. James 1:22-25
